„We are all looking for ideas large enough to be afraid of again.“ This is the quote of Ken Burnes, an American Documetary film maker.
This is how dr. Bill Silcock, journalism professor from Cronkite School of Journalism, Arizona State University introduced his workshop at the Faculty of Political Science for the television journalism students. Whatever we do, it should be a challenge. Our goals and expectations should be high.
The group of 12 television journalism students decided to produce a television news magazine program under the title Cro ID: The Journey Continues. Started as a tv workshop, this effort grew into the bigger project and HRT International Channel „Voice of Croatia“ decided to support the project. 5 radio and web journalists from the Voice of Croatia joined the workshop. All together they learn about tv and the multimedia journalism. The web portals and social media of the Voice of Croatia and Televizija Student are following the work of joint teams. The result of their work will be the multilingual tv and online edition.
The main focus of the magazine is a search for the Croatian Identity. The main location for the journalists stand ups is Sava River – from the border with Slovenia to the east, towards the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
The students were working hard to pick up interesting stories, stories that would be interesting for someone who doesn’t know enough about Croatia and people of Croatia. The magazine covers various segments of the life in the new EU country? Has anything changed after Croatia joined European Union? How the life looks like in Slavonski Brod, at the border of EU and non-EU? How the textile workers of Kamensko factory after the fall of their company started their own business. Why some Croatians want to leave the country and why some international people chose Zagreb for their home? Through the life of young student, the magazine brings the story about the Muslim minority in Croatia. And of course, Croatia is also a tourist destination. And not only famous by its see and the coast, but also Zagreb becomes the favourite place for young backpackers.
Dr. Bill Silcock and the teams have also support of their Zagreb mentors – dr. Tena Perišin, Igor Mirkovi? and also the Head of the HRT International Channel, Daria Marjanovi? who was once also, dr. Bill’s student.
